My Country, My Valentine!

Our youth of the pre-independence times had played active role in bringing freedom to our nation. The film, Swades, although not a commercial hit, beautifully portrayed a new angle of patriotism, that we ‘Indians’ need to change our mindset, come out of our comfort zone, enter the courage zone and return to our roots. Rang De Basanti invoked the action based patriotic feeling among the youth. The message was crystal clear. Take Charge, Bring about Change.

The youth of today is like a sleeping giant. Once awoken and empowered, it can move mountains. Its unrealized potential can bring about drastic change in the political system, social environment, ecological and economic condition.

But unfortunately, today, at the wake of terror and corruption, we are still sitting complacent as mere witness to the entire issue. It will not be shocking if we witnesses become victims. We get charged up at the occurrence of an incident and give powerful interviews and opinions on blogs. But what happens after that? We take a pillow and go to sleep again.

It is high time that we shake ourselves up and start taking action and responsibilities for our fellowmen apart from just taking care of only ourselves and our family. We need to take out time from our hectic schedule of work, partying, clubbing, and dating for our country, for our people. We need to extend our family from me and my family to my society and to my nation. This can only happen, when we feel belongingness with all around us, when we feel connected to the rest of the crowd, when we feel that they are own and when we feel that the innocent people who were killed in the horrifying terror attack in Mumbai, were a part of our own big family.

If you feel that all Indian are a part of you and you are part of them, then come and join the march against Terrorism and Corruption on 1st March at the Parliament Street. This is your chance to express your solidarity to your nation. You always wanted to do something for the nation, but didn’t know how and what to. Now you have a platform to raise your voice and to make noise. Get educated about current issues, get empowered and get involved to re-write the history of contemporary India.

Conceptualized and promoted by the Art of Living Foundation and World Alliance for Youth Empowerment (WAYE), the march primarily aims at bringing the youth together, awakening and empowering them, to participate in the collective democratic process. The youth shall become aware of basics facts like local governance, Right to Information Act, Right to Vote etc. Once educated and empowered, the youth can choose to take up politics, social service or non governmental jobs.

Post march, life skills programs shall be conducted to empower the youth physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. They can also involve themselves with various projects for social causes like prevention of spread of HIV, creating awareness about sex selection and global warming.

This march will the first step of a nationwide campaign aimed at amplifying the collective voice of the citizens and propelling the youth of India against Terrorism & Corruption. Under the sensitization theme of "Make your Country your Valentine", this movement across the nation, with a 3 fold solution of Awareness, Accountability & Action urges all you readers to come and walk the march.

Love your country as you love your partner!

Your date with your country: 1st March’09 at Parliament Street, Delhi.
